Take that you Bâtards français

To snub our noses at the French, who have been so critical of us in recent years, Chicago proposes an ordinance to ban foie gras! Take that you snobby elitist lovers of cream, butter, cheese and goose livers! Oh, wait....my mistake....this is the work of folks like Farm Sanctuary who are ok with us cutting the head off of the goose to get its liver, they just want us to treat the fowl with a country club lifestyle before doing so...IDIOTS!

Tiny, I was wondering where you get your information because, well, most of it isn't factual at all. It seems to be a mixture of partial facts, stuff you make up, and your ceaseless whining. And what is this you wrote about Farm Sanctuary condoning cutting the heads off of geese to get to their livers? They don't condone killing any animals, period. Hey, at least you have a good sense of humor about your miniscule private parts. Your name is Tiny, after all.

Typical liberal response in that you rely on a personal insult instead of a cogent argument. My point, while maybe not perfectly made, was that the ban itself doesn't prevent the death of the duck/goose, just helps to reduce a cruel (in theory) feeding technique to product large livers. Whether you accept it or not there is a pecking order, a food chain, and man is at the top. In the end whether you're a PETA extremist or just a mild animal lover it's very likely you're also a complete hypocrite. It's completely impossible to live in modern society without the benefit of some kind of animal product going into the production of something you use, directly or indirectly, even if you choose not to eat them.

It happens that I am not a liberal, though there is absolutely nothing wrong with being one. My views tend to fall squarely center as a libertarian.
Yes, some people -- those who pick and choose their cause -- are hypocrites, but to varying degrees. Some folks only care about their cause, and that's all. I, too, am a hypocrite, though I honestly try not to be. I do my best, or as best as I can, to try to live a kind life on all levels, and that includes animals, people and the environment. If that makes me a liberal, then that is a very, very sad statement on the conservative perspective.
I know most items contain animal products, and I do my best to avoid all that I can, and that includes what I eat and what I wear. Of course, I can't keep animal ingredients out of vinyl and rubber and other products.
The thing that bothers me the most is people who don't care about any cause -- those who say, well, they are going to kill the goose anyway, so who cares? Those are the kind of people who may not be hypocrites, because they have no causes to strive for and others to ignore, but those who stumble through life accepting the status quo and never striving for change. Those people are the ones I attribute the crumbling of humanity, and this planet, to.

glad you admit that not being an hypocrite when you're big on animal causes is impossible. I'm also one as some of my own causes I find too painful to fully ebmrace. And I'll also admit the animal cause tie to being a liberal isn't always an accurate one. However, I question the foundation of the animal cause folks who base their cause, in part or in whole, on cruelty. I'm not in favor of raising animals where they're in pain, that's not the kind of cruelty I'm talking about. Is a certain diet if it's not the supposed wild diet of an animal cruel? Is not having space to roam cruel? Is having to walk around in their own (or own kinds) waste cruel? As long as an animal is not in pain, or raised in a manner that leads to a health issue (which would cause pain)I believe the rest doesn't matter. I don't believe a cow, or chicken, or anything we eat or use has an mental anquish or suffering. If you think a pig shouldn't be raised in a confined pen with very little space, but they're otherwise healthy, because of some kind of suffering...tell me what kind of suffering it is? Apparently a duck or goose has no nerves inside the mouth or throat so the feeding tube used to feed them more than they would eat isn't cruel to me. Unless you're going to tell me the duck/goose suffers from the mental horror of the process?

The other thing you said that caught my attention was the implication that you're somehow on the wrong side of everything if you're not "striving for change". As if all things must be wrong now and therefore must change. That's just simply wrong. As for causes in general I have a ton I care about (education, govt spending, state vs federal govt rights, security and the border, oil exploration and drilling, renewable forests, the welfare system, etc.) it's just that those involving animals are not even on the bottom of my list. I think people who even go as far as you are missguided. You spend your entire life with a tremedous extra burden for this empty cause. You probably subject your spouse and kids (if you have both) to the same burden without their having a choice. And for what? Tell me the ultimate reason for this? What does it accomplish? Does it help your fellow man or the fryer chicken on the farm?
